Where to Find Great Dutch Oven Recipes

With the advancement of the internet it is easy to find all kinds of information on just about any topic you can imagine. That being said, not all information is accurate or good. This applies to Dutch oven recipes as well. Not all Dutch oven recipes are equal. You can find high quality recipes on the internet, but you need to be sure that the ingredients make sense. I am going to give you three great sources outside of the internet to find great Dutch oven recipes.

  1. Friends
  2. Camp outs
  3. Dutch Oven Cook-offs

The reason that I recommend friends is because usually friends will not steer you wrong. If you know your friend to have good taste that’s even better. Another good part of trying to get recipes from friends is that they are more likely to share them with you even if they won’t share them with anyone else. Also, every time you use that recipe it will remind you of that friend and you have a connection with that person through the food.

Another great place to get Dutch oven recipes is from camp outs Now this is related to the friend source, but you can go on camp outs with groups of friends or relatives and get recipes from people you just met there or just find recipes from acquaintances. The nice part about getting recipes from camp outs is that most of the time this gives you a chance to taste the recipe before you cook it yourself. Sometimes though, you may not have anyone cooking out of a Dutch oven; not to worry. You can still taste a lot of good food and ask the cooks if they have any recipes for Dutch oven cooking.

The third great source for Dutch oven recipes is from Dutch oven cook-offs or competitions. This can also be very discouraging since there are many people at these competitions that are very protective of their secret Dutch oven recipes and tricks. But for the most part, people are willing to impart some recipes and wisdom. But be leery, some people may also be trying to steer you in the wrong direction to keep you from really learning and competing with them. People get funny when it comes to competition.

I hope you are able to take some of these tips for collecting great Dutch oven recipes and get some gems of your own. If you would like to share a recipe with the Dugout, feel free to email us your recipe at dutchovendugout@gmail.com.
